Inspired by the concept of mapping the unseen, Elaine Su-Hui has created a series of "compasses", circular paintings within which emerge symmetrical pathways of rich color that have a mysterious way of reflecting back the viewers basic nature.
She uses all natural pigments, including lapis lazuli, buckthorn berries, indigo, and various other plant and insect derived colors. Elaine composes the compasses by looking for balance, evaluating how the shapes are emerging, then bringing the color, hue and value of the earth pigments into harmony.
